He’d beaten the train, despite having a longer road and having to climb two mountain passes. When Jim pulled into the Silverton station, there was Tom, waiting for him. One day in 1971, Tom Mayer challenged his older brother, Jim Mayer who worked as a brakeman on the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, to a race to Silverton.     It’s way easier overnight and too much fun, so overnight it is, Lets go ride! Partly this is due to demand and COVID procedures which have made day camp more of hassle with regulations of the coming and going to camp each day a safety concern. We are now transitioning our last families this year to all overnight camps for the future. We tried out one week of Overnight Camp 8 years back and have offered it ever since, increasing it by the high demand to ride from kids all over the country.
